Week 37 – Bomb the Music Industry

Task

Your favourite band/artist is touring, and you need to design a poster for them. Hurray! I’m leaving this fairly open, just to leave your imagination run wild. Next week we’ll have a more specific one.

Inspiration

Week 37-01-01

They’re an east coast DIY band, often labeled as skacore, who tour like madmen. I thought this kind of schedule would fit their, “we’ll play in your local rotary club’s basement” attitude. The poster itself is pretty straightforward, except for the lettering in the bomb which was hand drawn.

Week 36 – Corn Flakes

Task

Hello Designers,

In this challenge we will redesign a product you like, but with a twist! Spring is coming and in your challenge, your main colour HAS to be one of the following:

  • Spring Red – #e84035
  • Violet – #b89dc6
  • Light Green – #bed056

Let me explain. Perhaps, I really like Kellogg’s cornflakes, this is what it looks like now [1] . In the challenge I would create a new look for Kellog’s using these spring colours. This does NOT mean that you have to create a new logo, but you could create a new cornflakes design package that features one (or more) of these colours. Keep in mind shades of white and black are allowed too.

Basically anything that you use would work, be creative with it!

Cheers,

Cryptonaut

week 36-01

I decided to stay literal and go for a corn flakes box redesign. Straightforward, bold and it uses all three colors. I’d love to hear your thoughts and thanks for reading.

Resume Update

Being a graphic designer the resume is a constant source of trouble for me. I’m torn between creating a flashy resume that hints at my design aesthetic and one the HR rep will actually keep.  I recently updated mine, changing the layout to better show my expanding work experience and making it more in line with a normal resume so it doesn’t get trashed on a gut reaction.

I’d love to hear your thoughts/critiques.

52 Weeks of Design – Week 31

Task

This week we’ll attempt at designing a deck of cards. You don’t have to create all 52! Design as many as you like, but enough to give us a feel about how the deck would look like.

You’re welcome to use vectors for the queen/kings etc.

You can go for monochrome or coloured, minimalistic or filled with stuff, funky or serious – anything goes!

Here is a download for the traditional cards vectors[7] , but you are encouraged to design your own!

Good luck!

week 31-01

I decided I wanted something using photography since the first round of cards was more of an experiment in K and puns. Knowing that, I recently found a set of desktops that featured Patrick Star from Sponge Bob and I thought using them as the background would give it a more fun feel.

Thanks

52 Weeks of Design – Week 30

Task

This week we will be designing a set of share buttons for sites like Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, Google plus, Pinterest and/or any others you wish to create.

The buttons have to have something in common.. the same shape, color set or any other general aesthetics. Go wild!

Clean-01-01

I wanted something simple that fits in the emerging flat web trend, but still had layers and looked tactile.

P.S. Free Shipping on art prints this week

52 Weeks of Design – Week 29

Task

To celebrate their upcoming 50th anniversaries, two beloved novels are releasing special editions. Pick one and give it a worthy reskin: (1) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 1964-2014 / (2) Dune 1965-2015.

Dune

I appropriated my Arrakis Travel Poster because I like the look of the minimalist Fremen and the anticipation of a sand worm. I went with the famous fear quote on the back and a couple blurbs from the original publication.

Pretty simple but I’m pretty happy with the final look.

Thanks for reading
