If you haven’t noticed I’ve really started getting into digital painting; especially having discovered oil brushes on Photoshop, which is something I’ve never had the patience for in real life.
For some background, with every poster I start out by watching the movie. Then I watch it again. On the second run through I take a bunch of reference screenshots to rough together the poster concept. Then I take a look around and make sure I’m not reinventing and existing poster, either official or otherwise.
For Drunken Master 2 I was surprised by everything out there seemed to be using/featuring the same two (admittedly great) poses, but don’t really touch on the the stuff that makes this movie interesting as well as iconic. I decided to go with something different. It was a fun exercise in portrait painting while trying back into one of the main themes of the movie and brought the audience into the perspective of the main character.
At least that’s what I was hoping for.
Thanks for checking it out!
